Web design for an education portal

A col­lege edu­ca­tion por­tal was in need of a web­site which would focus on con­tent, with a con­tent heavy home page. That is why I went for a mag­a­zine lay­out.
The back­ground tex­ture gives a chalky feel­ing that rem­i­nesces the chalk­boards.
Notice the use of the appro­pri­ate icons for bul­leted lists.
The design is not being used by a live website.
